FLASH | SSS Nabs Ex-Chief of Army Staff, Azubuike Ihejirika

According to political watchers, this move has been long expected. Information reaching us indicates that the former Chief of Army Staff, Major-General Azubuike Ihejirika (rtd) has been arrested by operatives of the Department of State Security (DSS).


He was nabbed last night at his mega residence in Maitama, Abuja in connection with multi-Billion Dollars arms deal money linked to Goodluck Jonathan's former NSA, Sambo Dasuki.


A source in Abuja told Sodeeqstar blog that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, also has a big file of evidences against him and will move in once the DSS gives them a green light.Already a mini estate linked to him in the heart of Abuja said to be worth Billions of Naira has been seized.

Nigeria drop to Pot 3 in World Cup seedings

The 2013 African champions are not among the top two ahead of Friday's crucial draw according to the special seeding released on Thursday Nigeria will be in pot three of the Africa World Cup qualifier group stage draw billed for Cairo on Friday.


The Super Eagles were earlier placed in Pot Two alongside Cape Verde, Egypt, Mali and Congo DR. But with the Egyptian Football Association lodging a formal complaint to express their discontent after being zoned in Pot Two despite being the fifth best ranked team among the 20 teams – the Pharaohs have now been promoted to Pot One with Tunisia dropping to Pot Two.


Five teams remain in contention to qualify for Russia 2018 through Africa, with those sides to be divided into five groups of four. The top team automatically picks a ticket to the competition.


For the draw, Ghana, Senegal, Algeria, Cote d’Ivoire, and Egypt make up Pot 1, while Cameroon, Tunisia, Congo DR and Cape Verde join Guinea in Pot Two. Nigeria, Congo, Morocco, Mali and South Africa are in Pot 3 while Uganda, Burkina Faso, Zambia, Gabon and Libya complete Pot 4.

Ronaldo wins UCL goal of the season

The Real Madrid man's superb finish helped defeat Roma to seal a 2-0 victory that on the way to claiming their record eleventh European crown Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo has claimed the UEFA Champions League Goal of the Season, presented by Nissan, for his stunning strike against Roma in March.


It arrived in the first knockout stage to set the Spanish giants on their way to a 2-0 victory in the Italian capital before their safe passage to the quarter-finals was secured with a victory by the same margin in the return at the Bernebeau.


Cutting inside from the left, the Ronaldo slammed an unstoppable shot that flew past Wojciech Szczesny and into the far corner at the Stadio Olimpico.


It was one of 16 goals the Portugal international hit in the 2015-16 campaign, leaving him just one shy of the UCL record return of 17 the 31-year-old hit in 2013-14 to lead Madrid to a long-awaited decima.
