I was the only senator from Kebbi that rejected OBJ's N50m 3rd term bribe- Dep. Senate leader Bala Ibn Na’Allah says

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has come under attack following his comment yesterday that the recent revelations from alleged budget padding in the House of Representatives confirms his position that the National Assembly is filled with rogues and thieves.

Reacting to his comment, deputy Senate leader, Bala Ibn Na’Allah in a statement said he finds Obasanjo's comment reckless and terrifying.

According to him, he was the only senator from Kebbi state that did not collect N50 million that was being shared to senators to amend the constitution for Obasanjo's third term bid “I am respectfully taking exception to the statement which I express the hope is not true. To start with, it is not in my character to join issues with an elder statesmen who have had the privilege of superintending over the affairs of our great country Nigeria. This exception has become necessary in view of the enormity of the alleged statement to my person and integrity.

If former President Obasanjo can come out with one proven record of corruption against me as a person, I promise to vacate my seat as a senator of the federal republic of Nigeria. For the records, I was the only member from Kebbi State who did not find it worthy at that time of collecting the sum of N50 million as an inducement to subvert the constitution and provide a constitutional framework for the third term ambition of President Obasanjo. I find this statement if it is true to be reckless and terrifying.

The implications of the statement is to say that the entire over 170 million Nigerians have not elected a single person with integrity among the 469 members of the National Assembly. This is definitely rhapsodic and does not conform to common sense and reason” he said

Photos: Pastor accused of having s*x with female member inside church's praying room in Zimbabwe

Pastor Joseph, pictured above, of the Holy Fire Ministries in Waterfalls, Zimbabwe was last Sunday July 24th dragged before the church's elders after one of his female members confessed that the pastor had sex with her at the Church's prayer room.

The victim approached the elders after she discovered that her belly was swelling and itching even though pregnancy tests proved she was not expecting. “My tummy is just swelling and I am in pain. I suspect Pastor Joseph could have bewitched me after he forced me to have unprotected sex with him. Pastor Joseph asked me to see him after church service sometime in April for prayers but the prayers could not be conducted as he asked for sexual favours. Since he is single, I gave in after he promised to marry me and buy a car for me and from that time he accommodated me over night. He refused to use protection claiming that he is a holy man that cannot live with HIV but now I feel cheated, abused and dumped because he is no longer answering my calls from the day I told him about the pregnancy. Results from the pregnancy tests are negative and the doctor instructed me to go for a scan and Pastor Joseph promised to meet the costs but is now playing hide and seek. What I want from Pastor Joseph is for him to explain and give me assurances that he never used charms to me. I also want him to explain why he is blocking my calls after I told him about my condition.

He defiled the room where prayers are conducted because this is where he forced me to have sexual intercourse with him leaving me with more questions than answers on the reason for using that prayer room instead of other bedrooms at the house” said the victimPastor Joseph when interrogated, said the victim was his girlfriend “She is my girlfriend, I know her and she is beautiful for sure but as for not taking her calls, it was because I was busy.

At one time my handset was taken by people who are investigating a certain story concerning me that I cannot disclose to you. As for more information concerning what she is claiming, I think it is better for me to meet the elders privately for a way forward and that’s what I can say for now,”he said. One of the church elders identified as Chepa say investigations is ongoing to find other ladies he might have abused in the church.

“The woman (victim) approached me with such allegations and I could not believe that our pastor was defiling the place of worship by conducting such evil acts and our concern is to find the number of ladies he abused,” Elder Chepa said

Photos: Meet the HIV positive Malawian man who is paid $4 to $7 to have unprotected s*x with underaged girls

Eric Avina pictured above is a middle aged HIV positive Malawian man whose responsibility it is to conduct "s*xual cleansing" for underaged and also matured women in Nsanje district in southern Malawi. Avina in his community is referred to as Hyena, a traditional title given to a man hired by communities in several remote parts of southern Malawi to provide what's called sexual "cleansing". If a man dies, for example, his wife is required by tradition to sleep with Avina before she can bury him. If a woman has an abortion, she is expected to sleep with Avina to undergo cleansing. Also teenage girls, after their first menstruation, are made to have s*x over a three-day period with Avina to mark their passage from childhood to womanhood. If the girls refuse, it's believed, disease or some fatal misfortune could befall their families or the village as a whole. He says he's one of 10 hyenas in their community, and that every village in Nsanje district has them. They are paid from $4 to $7 (£3 to £5) each time.

"Most of those I have slept with are girls, school-going girls. Some girls are just 12 or 13 years old, but I prefer them older. All these girls find pleasure in having me as their hyena. They actually are proud and tell other people that this man is a real man, he knows how to please a woman." he told BBC Avina when asked said he is aware that he is HIV positive but he doesn't tell the women he sleeps with.

Although he has lost count of the women he has slept with, he puts the figure at about 104. He is married to two women who know about his job and approve.

Lautech students appeal to Aregbesola, Ajimobi to reopen institution

Some group of students of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso and Osogbo campuses have appealed to Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State and his Oyo State counterpart, Abiola Ajimobi, to reopen the institution.

The convener of the group, Eze Raymond, made the call on Friday in Osogbo in statement made available to newsmen. Raymond described the closure of the university due to nonpayment of salaries of the lecturers as “unfortunate”.

He appealed to stakeholders in the education sector to prevail on the two governors to reopen the university.

Raymond also appealed to Governor Aregbesola to pay the 12 months salary arrears government owed the lecturers. He appealed to Governor Ajimobi to settle the six months salary arrears Oyo State Government owed the lecturers. He urged the governors to pay the Earned Academic Allowance of the lecturers, which they claimed was paid last in 2012.

Raymond said: “We urge the two governors to settle our lecturers to enable our university reopen for the harmattan semester examination. “Programme that should ordinarily complete in five years is being delayed to seven years due to incessant strike occasioned by the inability of the government to pay workers salary. “We appeal to all stakeholders in the education sector to intervene.

“We also appeal to the two governors to come together and find urgent solution to the issues that led to the closure of the university.” The university is jointly owned and financed by Osun and Oyo State Governments.

Juventus Complete sign Higuain for €90m from Napoli

The Serie A champions have completed the signing of the Argentine forward and will pay the Partenopei €90 million for last season's top scorer in the Italian league Juventus have completed the signing of Gonzalo Higuain from Napoli for €90 million, it has been confirmed.

The Argentine striker has long been linked with a move to the Serie A champions, having already agreed personal terms earlier in July.

The 28-year-old has agreed a four-year contract with Massimiliano Allegri's side, which will see him pocket €7m per year.

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis had told Juve director Giuseppe Marotta that they would have to match Higuain's release clause to sign the forward, which was believed to be €94.7m, but that clause was only for the player himself to buy his way out of the club. The clause for any potential buyers was set at €90m.

Juve have matched that fee, which will be paid in two instalments of €45m, and have sent the contracts to the Lega Serie A, who have listed Higuain as a Bianconeri player.

Higuain, who scored 36 goals in 35 Serie A games last season, joined Napoli in 2013 and was tied to the club until June 2018. He follows the likes of Miralem Pjanic, Marko Pjaca, Medhi Benatia and Dani Alves in joining the Turin side this summer.

Paul Le Guen rejects Super Eagles job

French Coach Paul Le Guen has reportedly turned down an offer by the Nigeria National Football to coach the Super Eagles. NFF Technical Committee had on Monday named the former PSG Coach as the Technical Adviser for the Super Eagles, albeit subject to approval from the Executive committee. But reports from Le Guen’s home country (France) sparked up by French journalist, Herve Penot, who writes for L’Equipe, suggests the 52yrs old failed to agree on knotty issues with the NFF.

“Paul le Guen will not go to Nigeria. Conditions not met to be coach. Nothing to do with the selection today,” a tweet from the official handle of Penot read. According to PT, one of the knotty issues Le Guen failed to agree on with the NFF was that he would prefer to operate from France while the NFF wants him permanently stationed in Nigeria. On Monday, the NFF committee confirmed the appointment of Frenchman Le Guen as new Technical Adviser of the Senior National Team, Super Eagles.

NFF Technical Committee also said Le Guen will be assisted by Nigerian Salisu Yusuf, who takes the role of Chief Coach. But it appears that may not happen. Since the exit of Sunday Oliseh in February, Super Eagles has been without a substantive coach.

Donald Trump's campaign manager blames Hillary Clinton for Melania's plagiarism accusations

Donald Trump’s campaign manager has blamed Hillary Clinton for the backlash to Melania Trump’s convention speech, which had strong similarities with Michelle Obama’s convention address 8 years ago.

In interviews and at a press conference today, Paul Manafort, Donald Trump's campaign manager defended Melania Trump and accused Clinton of making it an issue.

"There’s a political tint to this whole issue," Manafort said. "We’ve noted that the Clinton camp was the first to get it out there and trying to say that there was something untoward about the speech that Melania Trump gave. It’s just another example, as far as we’re concerned, that when Hillary Clinton is threatened by a female, the first thing she does is try to destroy the person." He also made the same argument while speaking to CNN. "This is once again an example of when a woman threatens Hillary Clinton, how she seeks out to demean her and take her down," he said, adding that the speech included common words and values and dismissed accusations of plagiarism as "just really absurd." "We don’t believe there’s anything in that speech that doesn’t reflect her thinking.

We’re comfortable that the words that she used are words that are personal to her"

Kemi Nelson denies collecting N75m from Remi Tinubu to organize a protest against Dino Melaye

Yesterday Dino Melaye shared a post on his Facebook wall alleging that his colleague, Remi Tinubu had given Women Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Kemi Nelson N75million to organise a rally against him. Reacting to the report, Kemi Nelson said it was false. In a statement she personally signed and released today July 19th, Nelson said she doesn't need to collect money from Remi Tinubu or her husband, Bola Tinubu whom are her mentors, to stage a protest.

She however confirmed that she and a group of women will be staging a protest in Abuja tomorrow against Dino Melaye “We are moving to Abuja in full force to be part of this protest against Melaye for harassing a woman of substance like Senator Tinubu, whose family paid a huge price for our democracy. Our democracy is still nascent and we must do everything within our power to protect it. We should not allow people like Melaye to rubbish what took years and cost us several lives to achieve.

What Melaye did was not just against Senator Tinubu, but against all women and against our democracy. We will not behave like Nero, who sleeps, while Rome burns. All right thinking members of the society must rise against this oppression and an open insult against women by a man that has done little or nothing for our democracy. We cannot pretend that nothing is happening, when such a sacrilege is being committed in our country. With what Melaye has done, he has been demystified and he should be recalled by his people without any delay. We cannot keep quiet at this material time. As Professor Wole Soyinka would say; ‘the man dies, who keeps silent in the face of tyranny”the statement read

Dino Melaye alleges Remi Tinubu has released N75m to sponsor a protest against him in Abuja

Senator Dino Melaye has alleged that Senator Remi Tinubu has released N75 million to sponsor a protest against him. He made the allegation in a post on his Facebook wall this evening. He wrote; A civil rights movement, Committee for the Defence of Women's Rights, has uncovered a plan by the wife of a former governor of Lagos State and chairman, Senate Committee on Women Affairs, Mrs. Oluremi Tinubu to sponsor a protest against Senator Dino Melaye this coming Wednesday in Abuja.

The organisation said she has released N75 million to Lagos State APC Woman Leader, Mrs. Kemi Nelson through one of her sisters simply identified as Funlola. The National President of CDWR, Prof. Taibat Majekodunmi, made the revelation in a statement issued on Monday in Abuja. Already, the protesters have stormed Abuja and have booked for 300 rooms in many Hotels in hotels in Abuja. She said, "We have it on good authority that N75 million has been released by Senator Okuremi Tinubu to Mrs. Kemi Nelson through Mrs. Tinubu's sister called Funlola. The money is to organise a protest in Abuja on Wednesday against the chairman, Denate Committee on the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Dino Melaye, with 1,000 protesters from Lagos. "The protesters have booked for 300 rooms in some in hotels in Abuja. Why did she not organise a protest against the hardship of Nigerian women and widows.

As we speak, Alade market in Ogba area of Lagos has been destroyed and all the women rendered shopless. Oluremi Tinubu did not organise protest about that. "Against the provisions of the constitution of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Kemi Nelson doubles at the State APC Women leader in Lagos and also the zonal women leader of APC in the South West. This will show her greediness and why the Tinubu dynasty has taken over Lagos.

"Women were killed in Kano and Abuja and Mrs. Tinubu is the chairman, Senate Committee on Women Affairs. She did not organise protest over these killings. Mrs. Tinubu has not protested against the skyrocketed price of tomatoes in the market. In the same vein, kerosine is now over N200 per litre and she didn't organised any protest to that effect. "Instead, she has taken advantage of the prevailing poverty in the land to hire hungry women in the land to partake in an unproductive protest against Dino Melaye.

Women like Funmilayo Ransome Kuti, Hajiya Gambosa Sawaba, Sarah Jubril, fought for woman race without attacking any man. Mrs. Oluremi Tinubu should emulate the likes of Margaret Thatcher, Indira Ghandhi, Benazir Bhutto and our own dear Dora Akunyili. "You can imagine what N75 million will do in the lives of widows and hungry Nigerian women. We dare Mrs. Tinubu to go ahead with her planned N75 million protest in Abuja. We will also mobilise Nigerian women against this ostentatious display of wealth while the average Nigerian women wallow in abject poverty."

I remain loyal to APC, says Bukola Saraki

Senate President, Bukola Sarakion Mondayrestated his loyalty to the governing All Progressives Congress (APC). Saraki also reiterated his belief that the President Buhari's government will redeem its electoral promises made during the 2015 general elections.

The Senate President spoke at the 10th Abuja Housing Show where top government officials and prominent stakeholders in the housing sector brainstormed on the theme: “Expanding Access To Affordable Housing In Africa.” Acknowledging the presence of the APC National Organizing Secretary, Senator Osita Izunaso who earlier kick-started discussions at the summit, Saraki assured that the APC government is unwaveringly committed to the social welfare of the people while re-affirming his unalloyed loyalty to the party.

"The Senate and the National Assembly as a whole believe very strongly that we must make a difference in the housing sector," he said. The Senate President, reacting to observations that the existing housing laws need respective amendment and repeal, charged the organizers of the Summit to take a further step by forwarding a document of laws requiring amendments to the National Assembly. "I assure you that action will be taken instantaneously," Saraki promised. Saraki asserted that the Senate has commenced the review processes of several laws affecting property rights and access housing in the country. According to him, the review of the National Housing Fund Act is on-going and would be completed before the end of the year.

According to the APC National Organizing Secretary, Senator Izunaso, housing deficit in Nigeria is pegged at 17million housing units. "As at today, only 10 per cent of those who dream to own a house in the country can afford it, as against the 92 per cent house owners in Singapore. The central objective of the Summit, however, is to come up with feasible strategies on how to end the problem of homelessness in Nigeria," Izunaso said. Other personalities at the Summit include the representative of the Speaker of House of Reps, the Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Raji Fashola, Kano State Governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, Turkish Ambassador to Nigeria, Hakan Çakıl, TUC President, Comrade Bobboi Kaigama, among other investors.

Singer Simi Opens Up On Fame, Music, Speaks About Relationship With Falz

Musical act, Simi has been making waves in the music industry with her singles and collaborations. In this interview with Punch, she talks about life as a singer, her relationship with Falz and many more.

Have always wanted to do music?

I didn’t grow up around a lot of music because my parents aren’t music inclined. I wrote my first song when I was 10 years old. I have a very short attention span and it is one of the reasons why I experiment a lot with my music. My parents separated when I was nine years old, so I did not spend so much time with my dad; he died in 2014. My parents were quite supportive of my career at first. After I bagged a degree in Mass Communication, from Covenant University, my mother wanted me to get some job experience by working with an oil firm. I have always been of the opinion that its impossible to do music part-time, so I asked her to pray for the success of my music career.

Apart from music, what other things are you talented at?

I am also a sound engineer, so I mix and master music. This a major boost to my career because it means that there are a lot of things I can do on my own. It has also proven to a lot of critics that I am not just another artiste. You began your career as a gospel act. Why did you go mainstream? The first thing that comes to the mind is that I did it for monetary reasons.

However music became about ‘more’; I wanted to have a broader purview. It was a tough decision for me to make at first. I wanted to explore music more. My faith in God hasn’t waivered because before I went mainstream, I prayed to God to bless my career if it was his plan for me. I also don’t see myself doing gospel music again.

Why did you decide to record an entire album with Falz?

We are very good friends and having worked on several projects together, we toyed with the idea of recording a joint album.

What has fame cost you?

I don’t go out much but I love to go to regular places. I can’t do so any longer and I miss having a regular life because I am a regular girl.

Are you currently dating anyone?

I am in a relationship with someone else who is not Falzthebahdguy; we are just friends. My man is mature and understands the fact that I may be erroneously romantically linked with an artiste simply because we work on music projects together.

Former Nigerian rugby player jailed for assaulting and robbing a taxi driver in Dublin, ireland

20-year-old Nigerian former rugby player who beat up and robbed a taxi driver to avoid paying a fare was on Monday July 11, sentenced to nine months in prison.

Sachi Buti, who was born in Nigeria but came to Ireland at the age of eight, pleaded guilty to the robbery of Joseph Saji at St Michael’s Estate, Inchicore on the night of August 23rd, 2014.

His mother, who supported her son in the Dublin Circuit Court said she was extremely shocked and appalled at his actions. Buti began his career with Leinster rugby at the age of 14 and played with the under-15 team.

He went on to play for Blackrock, Liberty Saints and Guinness Rugby Club.

Judge Catherine Murphy said she was jailing Sashi Buti with "great reluctance" after he failed to engage fully with probation and restorative justice services and failed a drugs test.

Buti was caught because he left his passport behind in the taxi. He had flagged down the taxi on the Naas Road and got into the front passenger seat. Another man with Buti got into the back seat. They told the driver to take them to St Michael’s estate, which Garda Costello described as a derelict site with no CCTV cameras.

Once there, the other man put his arm around the driver’s neck and Buti started hitting him. Buti then sat up on the driver while the men robbed his iPhone, SatNav device and €220 in cash. Shortly after getting out of the car, Buti realised he had left his passport, mobile phone and a necklace in the taxi. He went back to the car but the driver had locked the doors.

Buti later reported his passport was lost. The driver suffered swelling as a result of the attack. None of the stolen items were recovered and he stopped picking up passengers on the street, which had resulted in a loss of income, the court heard. In his defence, Buti's lawyer Fiona Pecker told the court her client was drunk on the night. She said he claimed not to know the other man but that the other man had suggested that they both "do a runner" on a taxi as Buti had no money to get home after a night out.

Sentencing him to nine months’ imprisonment, Judge Murphy said Buti had been given "every opportunity" by the court to improve his situation. She said he had failed to provide evidence that he completed a course at College and that an employer reference he supplied from a valet car parking company was an "insult to the court" as it was not signed, had no letterhead and "could have been prepared by a child of 15". Buti attended only four out of seven probation service conferences and failed to complete an anger awareness course as part of the restorative justice programme, he also failed to provide any compensation to his victim and he also tested positive for cocaine and speed. Buti apologised to the court, saying: "I know you’ve given me so many chances. I 'm an idiot to take drugs."

Judge Murphy said she hoped Buti would use his period of incarceration to turn his life around. "You’ve got too much potential and too much ability to waste any more time in custody." she concluded.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, yesterday arrived Borno State to condole with the family and the people of Borno over the death of Alh. (Dr). Shettima Ali Monguno, Nigeria's first Minister of Petroleum, who died on July 8 at the age of 95.

After receiving the former President and his entourage at the Maiduguri International Airport, the state governor, Kashim Shettima led them to the Shehu's palace and then to deceased's family resident where he condoled with them.

Obasanjo described the deceased who was his former colleague as epitome of gentility.

"There are those we call founding father of Nigeria at independence, Shettima Ali Monguno is one of them so from the truthful point of view, we have lost one of the architect of Nigeria at independence.

We lost a great citizen not only of this state but of Nigeria" Obasanjo stated.

"I had the opportunity to serve with him in the administration of Yakubu Gowon. He was a complete gentle man.

An epitome of gentility in all the ramification of the word. He was a lover of Nigeria because any issue that is of national interest you will found Shettima clinging solidly to it" Obasanjo added.

"He was neither parochial nor napotic. Our consolation is that he leaved his life for his family, his people and his country and our prayer is may his gentle soul be with Allah" Obasanjo further added. More photo
