Zlatan Ibrahimovic proved what a powerful presence he will be in Jose Mourinho’s Man Utd squad during his Carrington medical.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic has not kicked a ball in a Manchester United shirt but has already broken one record.
United tweeted the indomitable 34-year-old broke the club’s power records in tests during his medical at their Carrington training complex on Friday.
Ibrahimovic stands at 6ft 4ins and weighs 83 kilograms – just over 13 stone – which is more than the sculpted former United forward Cristiano Ronaldo.
One possible reason why Jose Mourinho settled on Ibrahimovic as the striker to spearhead his attack is the United squad has been lightweight for a number of years.
Marouane Fellaini arrived to beef up the squad in 2013 but has struggled to endear himself to United fans. Marcos Rojo’s weight is listed as 80kg, while bulky right-back Antonio Valencia, captain Wayne Rooney and winger Memphis all weigh 78kg.
United fans have speculated Ibrahimovic could inherit Juan Mata ‘s No.8 shirt for the forthcoming campaign after watching an MUTV video posted during the Swede’s Friday unveiling.
As Ibrahimovic posed with the United shirt, the suggestion is the 34-year-old asked a United staff member : “What’s my number?” He was then supposedly informed of it and added: “Eight? That’s cool.” Ibrahimovic wore eight at Internazionale, where he played under Jose Mourinho for a season. During his career, he has also worn nine at Ajax and Barcelona, 11 for AC Milan and 10 for Paris Saint-Germain.
