Real Madrid Wins The 2016 Champions League Final After Penalty Shootout With Athletico Madrid

Real Madrid once again recorded the ultimate bragging rights at the expense of neighbours Atletico as they secured a record 11th Champions League triumph on penalties after a fiery final at the San Siro.

Cristiano Ronaldo lashed home the winning kick from the spot to make it 5-3 to Los Blancos after the match had finished 1-1 with neither side able to find the net in extra time.

It caps a fairytale conclusion to a first season at the helm for Zinedine Zidane after he replaced Rafael Benitez in the dugout in January.

The French icon becomes the seventh man to win the cup both as a player and as a manager.

Atletico had seen their hopes of a maiden success in Europe’s premier competition deflated by their arch rival in Lisbon two years ago and it was a case of deja vu in more ways than one as Diego Simeone’s men came up agonisingly short on the night.

Lagos Governor Ambode Emerges "Governor Of The Year"

Please, governance is not by going to mama put joints. That is something you do during campaign to at least familiarize with the people. But once you get their mandate, you are expected to work for them. Simple! Lagos state Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode has been judged to be Nigeria's 2015/2016 Governor of the Year based on a comparative analysis of Governors’ performance in Nigeria. This is according to a study conducted by the Centre for International Advanced and Professional Studies, CIAPS.

The study tagged CIAPS Governors’ Performance Index (CGPI) is a monthly performance review of what the Governors across the country are doing in their offices. In a statement released by the Centre, the CGPI coordinator, Mr Olumuyiwa Ayoola explained that the variables used as indexes for performance were mathematically calculated and this end of the year’s variables included “Payment of Salary, Infrastructure & Health, Education, Security and Business Opportunity and Employment”.

According to Mr Olumuyiwa Ayoola, the action of each state governor was monitored and studied from their first day in office and the findings were graded and compared to that of fellow governors across the country.

Over the past year, CGPI results show that Kaduna state performed more than any other state to create jobs and encourage business investments. Lagos state has done more than anyone other State for security and infrastructure.

Sokoto, Kaduna and Imo States were commended for their efforts on education. The Governors of Adamawa and Bayelsa States continue to remain at the bottom of the list as all finished in the bottom places with not more than a score of 39%. Commenting on the CGPI report, CIAPS Centre Director and CGPI Chair, Prof Anthony Kila stated that the “CGPI is a useful tool for democracy and good governance as it allows government to be objectively measured against their peers and compels all in power to be mindful of accountability”. The variables used for measuring Governors performance this month after one year in office factors the limited powers of State Governors as well as what they can do.

Kila further explained that he hopes that the CGPI monthly reports will allow governors to sit up, improve their performances during their tenure and even enter into healthy competition between themselves for the benefit of their states and the country as a whole. He advised Governors rated as poor to roll up their sleeves and improve governance rather than enter into a media war or words with observers.

At Last! EFCC Officially Receives A Petition Against Jonathan

You guys should not expected Jonathan back home soon; the coast is just not clear to make an entry...

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has formally received a petition asking the agency to probe ex-President Goodluck Jonathan on the alleged mismanagement of Billions of Dollars that was released to the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) for arms purchase.

The petition is also requesting the EFCC to invite Jonathan for interrogation on why he made N400m public funds available to a former National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Olisa Metuh, for personal and private party use.

Details of the first petition the EFCC will formally receive demanding the investigation of Jonathan. According to findings, the petition dated May 24, 2016 came from a former member of the Enugu State House of Assembly, Ikenna Ejezie, through his counsel, Barrister Osuagwu Ugochukwu. Both President Muhammadu Buhari and the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mallam Abubakar Malami, were copied the petition.

The petition reads: “We are solicitors to Hon. Ikenna Ejezie hereinafter called our client and with you as he has instructed. “Our client is requesting you to, in the public interest, invite ex-President Goodluck Jonathan for questioning and possible prosecution over his role in the misuse of $2.1billion through the Office of the National Security Adviser (Col. Sambo Dasuki rtd) and disbursement of N400million funds to Olisa Metuh for personal and private political party use.

“Our client notes that Dasuki had stated severally whilst in your commission that the $2.1b was authorized for disbursement by ex-Pres Jonathan for arms purchase, but later turned out to be for selfish purpose.

"Olisa Metuh also had admitted that former President Jonathan transferred and/or authorized release of N400m public funds to his account for political campaign of Jonathan rather than for public interest. “Our client informed us that the confession of Olisa Metuh is contained in his criminal statement with the EFCC. Our client is thus shocked that in spite of the implication of ex-President Jonathan in the current prosecution of Metuh and Dasuki, the former President has not been invited for his statement to be taken nor has he been prosecuted by the EFCC as co-accused/defendant. “Our client herewith requests that the ex-President be invited for questioning and to commence prosecution as he was the one who did authorize the disbursement of the $2.1billion and N400million public funds that were illegally abused and misappropriated by Dasuki and Metuh who are both standing trial in various courts in Abuja.

“Our client demands that this request be responded to within seven days from the receipt of this letter and as quickly as possible.”

Nobody Can Arrest Goodluck Jonathan - Ijaw YouthsTell Buhari

The Ijaw Youths Congress has dared the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Government not to contemplate the arrest of former President Goodluck Jonathan over the ongoing probe of massive fraud and embezzlement alleged to have taken place under his watch.

The youths, who converged at Wellington Hotel Effurrun, Delta State, for the 2016 annual Major Isaac Boro anniversary celebration with the theme, “The ideals of Adaka Boro and the renewed militancy in the Niger Delta: The way forward,” criticised the present administration for limiting its anti-corruption campaign only to the Jonathan regime.

The IYC president, Udengs Eradiri, said APC-led Government should probe the Halliburton bribery case under ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo, if it indeed want Nigerians to take its anti-corruption campaign seriously.

On the renewed militancy in the region, Eradiri said the opening of the Maritime University in Okerenkoko, Delta State, for academic activities was the first condition for a roundtable discussion with the Federal Government towards ending ongoing militants’ onslaught in the region. Eradiri said, “People have started discussing. There was a meeting in Abuja yesterday (Wednesday) but I told them that such a meeting would not work.

“If they want us to talk, they must first open the Maritime University and start admitting students, then we would now sit and talk. The same issues for which Adaka Boro and Ken Saro-Wiwa were killed are the same issues the Avengers are raising. “There are no Avengers anywhere. Settle these issues and the avengers would fizzle away.”

So once Maritime University in Tompolo's village opens, there'll be peace in Niger Delta? Interesting.
