Governor Ambode Says; "Soldiers Beat Up My Mother’s Police Guards

The Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, has denied a media report that a kidnap attempt was made on his mother, Mrs. Christianah Ambode, at her residence in Gbagada, Lagos on Friday. The governor, in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Habib Aruna, denied the report, saying it was not a true reflection of what transpired at his mother’s residence. Reports had claimed that that armed gunmen invaded the governor’s mother’s residence and disarmed some of the octogenarian’s police detail in an attempt to abduct her. But in the statement, Governor Ambode said, “Whilst it is true that a commotion occurred at the residence of the governor’s mother on the fateful day, it was however far from the truth that it was a kidnap attempt. “What really transpired was that a man parked his vehicle in front of the residence of the governor’s mother and the security detail attached to the building asked him not to park there so as not to block the entrance. “The man, who claimed to be military personnel, was not in uniform as of the time of the unfortunate incident but he insisted on parking in front of the building on the ground that he was military personnel. “He then went on to invite military personnel attached to Operation MESA to beat Mrs. Ambode’s police details after he was advised not to park his vehicle outside the building.” “At the moment, officials of the state government are taking appropriate steps to sanction the unruly military personnel who joined their colleague to disturb public peace,” Aruna stated. Lagos Police Command has confirmed the unfortunate attack and said it was working with military authorities to investigate the case and bring the culprits to book.

Expose: PDP as Sponsors of Niger Delta Avengers - APC

The All Progressives Congress has accused the opposition Peoples Democratic Party of sponsoring the new terror group, Niger Delta Avengers, to launch series of attacks against oil pipelines in Nige Delta.

The South South zone of the APC, in a meeting held in Benin City, Edo State, on Friday, condemned the act of sabotage with regards to the renewed attacks in the region, and said the main objective of the Niger Delta Avengers was to frustrate and derail President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.

The APC said: “The zone is cocksure that the nefarious and ruinous activities of the ‘Avengers’ are not driven by any patriotic and altruistic impulse.” In a communiqué issued after the meeting, the party said, “We have compelling reasons to strongly assert that these activities are sponsored and instigated by the opposition PDP to derail and frustrate the APC government of President Muhammadu Buhari because of its determination to fight against corruption, stabilise and put our country on the path of sustainable development.

The communiqué, signed by APC National Vice-Chairman South South, Hilliard Eta, and Zonal Secretary, Steven Ezekwem, also rejected the inclusion of Niger Delta region in the “imaginary State of Biafra”.

The party, which described the inclusion as “dubious”, said, “Niger Delta is not, cannot and will never be part of Biafra.”

Governor Ambode's Mother Escapes Kidnap In Her Home

Heavily armed gunmen on Friday evening invaded the residence of Christianah Ambode, the mother of Lagos State governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, disarming the octogenarian’s police detail in an apparent attempt to abduct her, inside sources revealed. The incident occurred at 24 Oguntona Crescent, Gbagada Estate I, Lagos at about 7:30pm. The sources disclosed that police officers manning Mrs. Ambode’s home were “overpowered and dispossessed of their rifles.”

Mrs. Ambode was, however, fortunate, as a swift reinforcement by the state’s police command thwarted the ploy of the assailants, who fled the scene. The back-up team arrived at 8:10pm, the sources said.

A senior Lagos State Government official close to Governor Ambode told PT a commotion occurred near Mrs. Ambode’s home. He, however, denied that it was a case of attempted kidnap.

The source said a man went to invite military personnel attached to Operation Mesa to beat Mrs. Ambode’s police detail after he was ordered not to park his vehicle outside the building.

“We heard from the governor’s security that the matter was not about kidnapping.

What happened was that a man parked his vehicle outside the home of the governor’s mother and the policemen there asked him to take his vehicle away.

“He went to call men of Operation Mesa to deal with the policemen, that was what caused the disturbance.”

Abuja Business Woman's"Disappearance" Causes Confusion

Almost one month after an Abuja-based business woman, Charity Aiyedogbon, went missing from her home in Gwarinpa, family and friends have become more frantic as no clues have yet to come up on what could have happened to the mother of four.

Charity, who is said to be separated from her husband, Mr David, literally vanished without a trace on May 11, as her phone numbers have also remained switched off. The woman posted regularly on her Facebook page under the name Deepdeal Chacha DeHammer until May 11, when she posted a photo of herself sitting in a vehicle with the words: “Road trip” at 9.11am.

She has since disappeared as her friends fear she might have been abducted. Friends, who have since mounted a social media campaign to locate the missing woman, said when they got into her apartment, there was no indication that she was going on any road trip.

According to Punch, after two weeks of going off the radar, her friends visited her apartment and were able to gain access into it in company with her landlady and some security personnel.

In a post by her friends, it was noted that there was no indication that she was going on a road trip as she had no bag packed and every item in her apartment remained unruffled. In addition to that, it was noted that she had a pot of soup on her cooker, which had turned bad after being left for long.

Her friends said that she had previously received some threats from certain undisclosed individuals, which had prompted her to contract a technician to install CCTV in her apartment. It was learnt that attempts had been made to retrieve her call logs, which indicated that the last call from her phone was made on May 9, to a number registered to an individual named Rabi Mohammed. The last received call from another number showed the same date. The police at the Gwarimpa Police Division, where the case was reported, have made little headway in the bid to determine what could have happened to the woman.

But the police say they are on top of the situation.
